This is an older post from about 1 year ago but I want to update it for you guys to show all the new things I am bringing with me on a daily basis. I also want to share some purse/bag organizing tips and tricks to keep your bag organized and not a complete disaster. I had taken me a while before figuring out I didn’t need to carry a million things with me in my bag every time I left my house. Here are my everyday purse essentials!
My everyday purse essentials
My Everyday Bag/Purse
The bag you choose to carry around with you is so important. You want something that is versatile, comfortable and practical. You don’t want to carry around a huge tote bag with a million things and never use half of them. Now, if you know you will need that much space (when you’re traveling for example) the sure. Go ahead and use one!
I like to use either my small backpack or a smaller purse/tote bag. It depends on what I am going to be doing that day. If I am going out shopping, then I will bring my backpack so my hands are clear to pick up things or hold bags. I also only use my small backpack if I know I am going to be out running a lot of errands. Using a smaller backpack (for me) is so much easier than carrying around a purse. I can just toss it over my shoulder and I am ready to go.
If I am going somewhere that I need to bring documents, I want to bring my water bottle or I am going out, then I will decide to bring my smaller purse. Bringing a purse is honestly a little bit inconvenient for me. I don’t always like to carry around something in my hand or have all that weight on one shoulder. Although, going out with my everyday small backpack won’t look nice when I am wearing a dress, going out to dinner with Stefan haha.
I have 2 wallets that I switch between at least once a month. It is all depending on where I am going and what I’m doing. If I am going hiking, using my small backpack, or shopping I will end up bringing my smaller wallet. It is easier to take in and out of my bag (if needed) and doesn’t take up too much space. A smaller wallet also means it’s lighter to bring and I can’t store many old receipts in there haha.
My larger wallet I usually only bring when I end up using my purse. My smaller one tends to get “lost” in my bag. Especially if I end up buying a couple of things, if I put my scarf in there or if I end up bringing my water bottle with me somewhere. My bigger wallet can still hold all of my cards, cash, coins, and it is much easier to find it in my bag.
Unfortunately, I always have to carry my passport on me. It is my only form of official ID here in Germany. If I run into the police here and I don’t have it on me, then I can end up getting a pretty hefty fine. It can get pretty annoying to always have to remember to bring my passport with me but it has become a habit. I always double-check my bag before I leave the house to make sure I have it with me. Along with all the other important things that I need as well haha. I also need to bring it with me in case I get stopped on the bus and they need an ID or if someone needs my ID when I am using my credit card.
Small Pouch for Little Things
I also bring a smaller bag usually inside my purse and not my backpack. Since my purse is bigger, I don’t want all my smaller things to be flying around the inside of my bag and making it messier than it needs to be. Some of the things that I will end up putting in the smaller bag are my house keys, car key, chapstick, hand sanitizer, hand lotion, disinfectant wipes, a pen, and some tissues. Yes, I usually end up using everything at least 2 times while I am out and about. It may seem like a lot of unnecessary things but you never know when you will need something. Stefan ALWAYS asks for a tissue when we are out doing our errands and I always have some because I keep them in this small pouch.
I NEVER go anywhere without my phone. Even if it is just to let my dog out into the garden so she can run around. One time I went to take her out and I got locked out and had to call Stefan to let me back in haha. Another time I took my dog out for a walk and we both got attacked by a dog and I needed Stefan to pick me up and take Nova to the vet. What I’m saying is, always bring your phone. You never know when you will end up needing it, especially in an emergency.
I use my phone for a lot of different things when I am out running errands or even just going out to eat/grocery shopping. I use it for my music, my grocery list, I take photos/videos, and I also use it as a GPS. Plus the obvious things like scrolling through social media in the car or calling/texting someone.
Reusable Water Bottle
I usually only end up bringing my water bottle if I am going shopping, going out for a hike, or staying in the car for a while. Staying hydrated while running errands is really important because you don’t want to end up not feeling good when you’re trying on a pair of jeans or if you have to drive 3 more hours until your destination. I also bring my empty water bottle onto planes so I can have fresh filtered water before getting onto the plane. Plane water is gross and I wouldn’t recommend drinking it.
my everyday purse essentials: organization tips
Dump Everything Out
Start by dumping everything from inside of your purse out onto a table or the floor. Doing it on those surfaces will be best because it is easier to clean if there are food crumbs or just small pieces of trash in your bag.
Sort Through Everything
Start to sort through everything and put them into 2 piles. Keep in your bag and trash. You don’t need a 3-month-old receipt from Starbucks but you may need to keep your ID or your favorite sunglasses.
Use The Inside Pockets
If your bag has inside pockets, put them to use! I use those for receipts and even for some extra chapsticks and tissues. I like to put things I know I will use frequently in the inside pockets so that they are easier to reach when I need them.
Put Things Together
So put debit cards, gift cards, and receipts (you need to keep) in your wallet. Then have a smaller bag(s) to organize smaller things. You can put your chapsticks/lip glosses in 1 bag then hand sanitizers and lotions in another.
