Traveling has played a huge part in my life ever since I moved to Germany 4 years ago. I’ve had the luxury of being able to afford to travel with Stefan every few months these past years and it has been amazing.
We have been to the coast of Spain, visited the tulip fields in Amsterdam, and strolled through the busy streets of Copenhagen. What I’m getting at is that we have traveled… A LOT!
Next year is no different. Although we are planning on visiting some of the same countries a few times next year, it will still be magical and fun.
Our first trip of the New Year is going to be in Austria. We plan on staying in a small town near Zell am See. The cute apartment we rented has a mini kitchen and a small terrace. We plan on staying for 4 nights and 5 days. our itinerary is already done so we have plenty of little day trips planned as the city we are staying in isn’t very big.
One day we plan on visiting Hallstatt. I already have an itinerary planned for us but a couple of things we plan on doing are going on a winter hike in the mountains and checking out the skywalk!
Another day we want to go to Innsbruck. This is a smaller city so there isn’t much to do there. But we are hoping that we can take a cable car ride up and down one of the mountains and check out a couple of museums.
We will also pop into Salzburg and Zell am See for a few other fun day adventures on our trip!
Next, we plan on taking a 1-2 day trip to the Black Forest still during winter. We have seen so many beautiful snow-covered mountains and hiking trails that we definitely want to check out. Of course, Nova will be coming with us so hopefully, she likes the snow haha.
The Black Forest is one of mine and Stefan’s favorite places to visit pretty much at any time of year. But I think my favorite times to visit are fall and winter. I love seeing the leaves change colors and all the trees covered in snow. It’s like a whole different planet going there sometimes.
We have a little break planned. We all need some downtime and of course, time to do laundry haha. During this break, I’ll mainly be focusing on writing and editing blog posts and pictures. I also have a few series ideas coming out in 2020 so I’ll be working on those as well.
Of course, Stefan will also be working during this time. We might also take a few day trips here and there but nothing planned for certain as of right now.
Now here comes the craziness!
We will be traveling to Leipzig for an event on Stefan’s side of the family. We went to Leipzig once before and we really enjoyed touring around the city, even though there wasn’t much to do. I think we saw a lot of the major sites in 1 day. Hopefully this time we can see it from a locals point of view.
After this trip, we will be heading to the Bavarian forest for a couple of days for some relaxation, hiking, and just to tour around some of the neighboring cities. Since it is kind of on the way back to Stuttgart, we thought we might as well stop and check it out. Neither of us has ever been there before and I have heard such great things about it.
Then after the Leipzig trip, we will be heading to Berlin for 5 days. Berlin is my absolute favorite city in Germany. It has such a great vibe, I love it!
We are going there for a vegan conference that Stefan wants to attend. The conference is on Thursday-Saturday and it’s going on mostly all day. While Stefan is there, I will be roaming around Berlin by myself. I’ll probably check out a couple of museums, go to my favorite bookstore, do some shopping and maybe even get a massage. I might even be able to convince Stefan to take a riverboat cruise with me one night if the weather is good enough of course.
Next, we’re off to Switzerland for 1 week! We are going to a concert for “A System of a Down”. It’s not quite my taste in music but Stefan really wanted to go, so we’re going. Plus, I owe him for me dragging him to a Katy Perry concert in 2017.
After the concert, we will have an extra day in Zurich to explore. We went last year with my parents but we didn’t have that much time to really wader around the city.
Then, we’re off to the Matterhorn! This will be an interesting trip because the city you go to, to get an amazing view doesn’t allow cars. So we have to stay in another city and take a train in. We wanted to go in January but we weren’t sure about the road conditions and we didn’t want to get snowed in.
We might also make a few other stops along the way in some of the other cities when we head back to Stuttgart, but we haven’t made any concert plans other than the concert and the Matterhorn.
Here is to hoping that I can manage to fit in a solo trip this year! I would love to take the train to Hamburg or Paris. Although I haven’t put much thought into this trip yet because we have so many other things going on.
Traveling with Stefan is amazing and he is such a great travel partner. But there is something about traveling by yourself that just feels empowering and freeing.
I do have quite a few places that I would love to visit on my own that are only a train ride away so we will see when I can manage to squeeze into my schedule and what my bank account decides is okay haha!
Then we have a couple of months’ break. We definitely need this time to relax and unwind from all of the driving around we will be doing.
I will use this time to catch up on blog posts, Pinterest, spending time with our pup, laundry, and editing photos. Plus, getting back to eating healthy! We sometimes struggle with that when we are traveling a lot but next year we really want to try to be better!
On the last trip of the year, we will be heading to Basel for maybe 1 or 2 nights. Kind of just a small getaway before the holiday seasons approach us.
The holidays can be stressful so we want to have a clear mind before all that craziness comes for us.
We haven’t decided if we wanted to go on holiday over Christmas yet but I’m trying to convince Stefan to take me back to Spain 😉
I hope you liked my post and following along with my travel plans for next year! What are some of your travel plans for the new year? Let me know in the comments below 🙂
