Today I am going to talk about travel accessories. There are basic travel accessories that everyone will need such as suitcases and phone chargers. There are always things you THINK you will need on vacation but you never end up using it and it just wastes precious space in your suitcase.
This is going to be a post about my Basic Essential Travel Accessories. This is a list of things that I bring on almost every trip but of course, it will differ depending on the type of trip I am taking.
Almost every airline lets you bring a personal item. Whether it’s a small backpack or a purse/tote bag. I personally always bring a small backpack so I can put my valuables in there and not in my checked bag (much safer that way!).
I bring a small black suitcase I bought off Amazon and its the perfect carry-on size. Stefan and I even have the same one because we like it so much.
I bought a great hard-shell suitcase from Samsonite. It’s my favorite suitcase I have ever bought, it’s really amazing. It travels really well and after using it on many trips, it only has a small chunk missing off of it.
It also has a built-in padlock so you can set your own code so only you can get into your suitcase. There is also a special TSA lock on the side so if they need to get into your bag without having to break it open.
I bring my camera on every single trip I take. Even if I am going somewhere for 2 hours, this camera comes with me. You never know when inspiration will strike and you get the perfect shot. I also take shots for my social media and other blog posts on trips as well.
-Extra phone battery
I have 1 or 2 of these that I always bring with me. You never know if you won’t find an outlet at an airport or if the charging won’t work on the plane. It is also nice to have while you’re on vacation so your phone won’t die when you’re out taking videos or using the GPS.
I use my headphones mainly on flights or on long train rides to listen to music or podcasts. I have travel anxiety so having something else to focus on really helps me sometimes. I also like to use them in hotels if I want to watch something on my iPad while Stefan is reading.
My iPad is definitely an essential for me whenever I go traveling. It is my photo storage and computer when I’m on the go. It is much easier to bring than the heavy laptop that I have. I also use it to edit my photos as well.
I would never go anywhere without my phone. It acts as my camera, GPS, video recorder, photo editor, and many other things. Plus, now that I have the new iPhone 11, I end up taking a lot of my Instagram photos with it.
I got cord organizers a few months ago and I absolutely love them! They’re amazing at keeping all my cord neat and it’s really easy to find which cord I want without having to intangle them for 5 minutes.
I got these a year ago and I love using them on every trip I take. Using them makes it so easy to find which clothes I want to wear without having to unfold everything just to find 1 shirt.
My lips ALWAYS get chapped on every single trip I take. It doesn’t matter if its summer or winter. My lips are always in need of chapstick. But then when I am home, my lips are fine haha.
-Disinfectant wipes & hand sanitizer
These are definitely one of the things I always make sure to never leave the house without. Especially when traveling but I also bring them on my day-to-day travels (grocery store, bus/train ride, etc.). I hate touching dirty seats and table trays. Plus, touching all of that can give you a higher chance of getting sick. I don’t want to take any chances of getting sick before or during my trips.
-Light sweater/scarf for longer flights
Ever since moving to Germany, my body runs much colder than when I lived in California. I bring sweaters everywhere I go. I also leave one in the car in summer in case the car gets too cold. I love being warm at all times so I always make sure to bring comfy ones for long drives and flights. I also bring a scarf with me on flights because it can double as a blanket.
Neck pillows come in so handy on long haul flights and train rides longer than about 2 hours. I forgot to bring mine when I took a train to Austria, otherwise, I probably would have slept through the entire ride!
I also now started bringing my own pillow on trips because I can never sleep using the ones in hotels. They are always too soft and I wake up the next morning with an extremely sore neck.
Traveling from country to country, having your passport is the number one thing you always need to have on you. Stefan is lucky that he can travel to all the EU countries with just his german ID. Americans can also travel to most of those countries as well without having a VISA but you still need to have your passport in case you get stopped by local authorities or it’s needed in the airport.
-Reusable water bottle
Staying hydrated while you are traveling is so important. If you get dehydrated while flying, you can get altitude sickness which is no joke. I had it a few times and it was awful. Now I always make sure to hydrate a couple of days before my flight so I don’t have to use the bathroom every 5 minutes on the plane or train. Plus, bringing a reusable water bottle is really good for the environment!
Sleep masks come in handy on long haul flights and train rides. It makes it so much easier to sleep because you are blocking out all of the light. Plus, sleeping on the planes/trains can help pass the time quicker. I also like to bring one to use in hotels because the curtains in the rooms don’t always block out enough light for you to be able to sleep in.
I never go on any trip anywhere without bringing snacks. You never know if the airport/plane/train will have anything you want/can eat. So having options is great while you’re traveling. It also means you won’t be starving by the time you get to your destination so you can rest right away instead of running out and finding somewhere to eat.
Making sure you bring all the things you need and nothing more is really hard to do. That is why I wanted to share my list of items that come with me on almost every single trip! Of course, what you decide to bring with you always depends on the type of trip you are taking.
